I don't really know why I'm here. My wife made the appointment. I've just been a bit tired lately. Nothing serious.
Marcus
That makes sense. It can feel strange when someone else books it. Can you tell me more about the tiredness? When did it start?
You
Months, maybe. I don't know. I just don't feel much about anything lately. Which is probably nothing. Work is just busy.

Our position

You cannot automate
human warmth.

As the world grows lonelier and mental health demand accelerates, the answer is not fewer human clinicians. It is better-trained ones, faster.

Empath AI was built on a simple conviction: that the quality of a mental health consultation depends almost entirely on the person conducting it. Their presence. Their curiosity. Their capacity to sit with discomfort and not flinch.

Those skills are not taught in textbooks. They are practised. We built the practise ground.

The problem with current training
Across health and human services, learners get limited real exposure to high-acuity conversations before they are in the room. Standardised actor patients are costly, inconsistent and hard to scale. Many enter their first difficult conversations underprepared.
What Empath AI does differently
Our AI patients and clients deflect, minimise, or go quiet just when you think you are getting somewhere. They do not behave like textbooks. They behave like people. Learners build the skills in a safe space, before the conversation carries real weight.
Developed under clinical governance
Every persona is developed and reviewed under clinical governance involving registered psychiatrists and allied health professionals before it goes near a learner. The review process is built into the product.
Why we exist

A mental health consultation is the most human thing in medicine. We built the place to practise it before the stakes are real.

How it works

Three steps to a
real conversation.

Empath AI mirrors the structure of a real clinical encounter. No branching paths. No correct answer. Just the skill you bring to the conversation and how well you can listen.

01
Choose a scenario
Pick from scenarios across clinical mental health, psychosocial and community support, and supervision. Each one has a history, a backstory, and a reason they are not telling you everything.
02
Talk to the patient
Speak or type in real time. The AI patient responds as a person, not a menu. They deflect. They minimise. They contradict themselves. They go quiet. There is no shortcut.
03
Debrief and improve
After the session, Empath AI shows you what the patient was experiencing beneath what they said. Your strengths, the moments that mattered, and where to focus next.

Post-session debrief

Feedback that
actually teaches.

After every session, Empath AI surfaces what the patient was communicating beneath what they said. The minimisation. The deflection. The thing they mentioned in passing that mattered most.

03 · Key learning moments

Strengths and areas for development

A timestamped replay of the moments that mattered, with the patient's underlying state shown beside how the learner responded.

✓ Strength

"You asked what his wife had noticed, not just what he noticed. That opened up the real reason for the visit."

→ Develop

"Marcus said he 'doesn't feel much about anything'. This was a natural opening for a gentle, direct safety question."

✓ Strength

"You sat with the silence after he went quiet instead of filling it. He disclosed more because of it."

→ Develop

"Sleep and appetite were noted. Anchoring them in time and degree would strengthen the picture next time."

04 · Your improvement plan

Three things to practise next

Every report ends with specific, do-able next steps and recommends the next cases that target the exact skill gap, so progress is deliberate, not random.

1
Make risk screening routineBuild a natural place for a direct safety question into every low-mood consult. Recommended next case: "Hannah, 19 — masked low mood".
2
Quantify the somatic pictureAnchor sleep, appetite and energy in time and degree. Recommended next case: "Raymond, 58 — somatic presentation".
3
Keep doing thisYour use of silence and your opening were genuine strengths. Carry them into harder presentations to keep building.
